New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 27, 2022) follows:

Receiving money unexpectedly is one of the best feelings. And many TikTok users just got to experience the same.

Users have begun taking to Twitter to report that they have received an email confirming an amount of $27.84 or $167.04 has been credited to their accounts as part of the TikTok ‘Data Privacy Settlement’.

What settlement are we talking about? Well, last year the company notified users that they could submit a claim for a settlement due to a class action lawsuit.

A year later, it seems TikTok has finally begun releasing the settlement as many users who submitted the claim successfully have received the settlement money.

Some users have reportedly received a payment of $27.84 while other individuals have received $167.04 instead.

Why the discrepancy? Well, users in Illinois who used the app prior to September 30, 2021, are intitled to a higher settlement amount, as mentioned on the website.

A few users also stated that they were facing issues claiming the settlement payout, but after a few repeated tries, it worked.

You can’t submit a claim right now as the deadline — March 1, 2022 — has already passed. So if you filled out the claim forum successfully, you should be receiving the settlement payout shortly, if you haven’t yet already.

That said, TikTok is yet to release an official statement regarding the ‘Data Privacy Settlement’ payout. So we’d suggest taking the information here with a grain of salt as nothing is official yet.

The latest update on the official settlement website still mentions the following:

So we’ll have to wait for an update on the site for more details regarding the settlement payout.

Update 1 (October 27, 2022)

12:06 pm (IST): Many users are confused as they are receiving emails from the address that ends with ‘@hawkmarketplace.com’.

However, it is a legit company as Verizon also sends gift cards to its consumers using the same email address. Furthermore, a YouTuber has also pointed out the same in their video.

Update 2 (October 28, 2022)

15:10 pm (IST): According to the official website, the issuing of the settlement payments has begun.
