Google has recently launched the Pixel 7 series of smartphones which come with improved cameras, longer-lasting batteries and brighter displays.
The smartphones are powered by the new Tensor G2 chip and include multiple software improvements.
Android Webview and Google Play system update
However, many Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro users are reporting an issue where Android Webview and Google Play system are not updating.
Even though the devices show a security warning saying the frameworks are outdated and need an update, users don’t really find one.
Apparently, the Google Play system and Android Webview are stuck on the July 2022 patch and the update installation keeps failing whenever prompted.

On my new Pixel 7, Google Play System Update is stuck on July 2022. Is there any walk around to update it?

Pixel 7: I set up by transfer from 6a with cable. Updated all apps and OS but Android System WebView won’t complete it’s update. It fails every time and I have tried the usual fixes eg. resets, clearing cache, uninstalling and reinstalling etc.

Users have tried clearing the cache to trigger an update for Google Play system but to no avail. Similarly, the Android WebView framework doesn’t get updated even after uninstalling and reinstalling.
Potential workaround
Google hasn’t said anything about the issue where Android WebView and Google Play system on Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are not updating.
However, we have come across a workaround that can help fix the issue. You can check it out in the screenshot attached below:

We hope the team finds out the root cause behind the problem and fixes it at the earliest.
