[Updated] Dictation & Hey Siri not working after iOS 16 update for some, issue allegedly acknowledged (potential workaround inside)

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 10, 2022) follows:

Apple has recently released the stable iOS 16 update for iPhone users. It brings a bunch of new features and changes.

However, the update has been plagued by a number of bugs and issues. Many users have so far reported various kinds of issues with iOS 16 update, and you can check them out in our dedicated iOS 16 bugs and issue tracker.

Dictation & Hey Siri not working after iOS 16 update

With that said, some iOS 16 users are now reporting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) yet another bug where Dictation and Hey Siri are not working for them.

And when they try accessing it using the power button it says ‘working on it’ and then throws ‘Something went wrong’ error.

iOS 16 ghost touch

According to some of those affected, although Siri responds to ‘Hey Siri’ command, it won’t listen to them after that.

Here are some reports from those affected:

Since iOS 16 update, it killed Siri and Dictation on my iPhone 12. Voice-to-text doesn’t work at all. Strangely, Siri will respond to “Hey Siri” command, but won’t respond to what I say after that. Apple support has been USELESS. Very unhappy! (Source)

@Apple @AppleSupport I cannot convey strongly enough how bad the dictation quality is on my new iPhone 14 with iOS 16.0.2. In fact, the dictation was so bad on this message I had to correct it before sending it. (Source)

And while Apple is responding to users’ complaints regarding this issue, they haven’t acknowledged it yet. However, a user has suggested a workaround that might help you resolve this issue. You can check it out below.

switched to English UK and if resolved the proble. Switched back, and the problem was still there. I then switched to E-UK, then changed to the voice to an American Voice (#2). Still working so I switched back to English (US) and it worked. Now Siri seems to be working correctly. (Source)

We hope that Apple acknowledges this issue and releases a fix for the same soon since users cannot access Siri. Rest assured, we will keep tracking this issue and update it as and when anything noteworthy comes to our notice.
