Google AdSense allows publishers to monetize their online content. AdSense works by matching adverts to websites depending on their content and traffic.

Publishers retain control over the advertising that is displayed on their sites as they can customize where they appear, block ads, and determine which type best represents their site.

Google AdSense ‘payment account has been canceled’

However, many YouTube creators received an email stating that their Google AdSense ‘payment account has been canceled’ (1,2,3,4,5).

This issue caused panic among creators as the reason for their account closure was not specified in the email itself.

But don’t panic, this is a planned shift because Google recently separated YouTube AdSense and Google AdSense.

YouTubers will now have a new homepage where they can see their earnings separate from the Google AdSense that most other publishers use.

Also, Google has taken a step further and canceled the Google AdSense payment account for people who only earn via YouTube. These individuals will get their AdSense details on the dedicated YouTube AdSense account.

YouTubers don’t have to do anything as their Google AdSense account has just been moved to YouTube AdSense as part of the new change.

@TeamYouTube I received an email stating that my Google AdSense payment account was canceled. The account number in the email does match mine. I did not cancel this account. I’ve logged into my account and don’t see anything abnormal.

Back in February, YouTube announced a simplified AdSense experience for creators.

After the update, YouTube creators were supposed to get an email informing them that their Google AdSense account has been terminated. However, it’s limited to users who have YouTube as their only source of income.

Issue acknowledged

An AdSense community manager on the official forum has clarified this issue and said that it’s part of the new payment user interface:

Similarly, a YouTube community manager has ensured creators that their channel monetization will remain active and won’t be affected:

Hey Creators!
You may have received an email from Google AdSense that one of your payments accounts was canceled. To clarify, your YouTube payments account & channel monetization remain active – no changes have been made there!
