New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on September 30, 2022) follows:

Snapchat is one of the most used messaging services in the United States. The ephemeral messaging app managed to capture the attention of millions of people since its launch.

A few years ago, Snapchat’s ‘Best Friends’ feature was a bit different. The basics were similar to the current one, since the Best Friends list allows you to see which users you usually chat with more often.

But previously, Snapchat even allowed others to see your Best Friends List. Of course, this was taken by some to be a breach of privacy.

So, an update was made to remove the settings that allowed others to see your Best Friends List. But rumors are spreading that the previous behavior of the Snapchat Best Friends List could return.

Is Snapchat really bringing back the old Best Friends List?

Lately there has been word on multiple sites that the old Snapchat Best Friends List (where other users could see who you chat with the most) could return this year.

More specifically, according to reports, the return of the original behavior could occur in a Snapchat update that may arrive on October 1. But is this true?

Apparently, rumors related to the matter began spreading on platforms like TikTok. For instance, there are currently many TikToks like the following (if you’re from India you should use VPN to see the video).

However, as of today there is no solid reason to think that Snapchat will bring back the old behavior of Best Friends Lists. The matter seems to be more of a new TikTok trend that many are participating in to gain notoriety.

In fact, the official Snapchat Fresh Feature for Fall (which you can check out here) also doesn’t mention any changes to the current behavior of the Best Friends List. So probably the next update will keep things the same.

If you were worried that other users could know who you chat with the most, you can rest easy now. We will update this story if there is any change in the situation in the future.

Update 1 (Oct. 03, 2022)

01:19 pm (IST): Responding to a user’s query, Snapchat support said that the Best Friends List isn’t publically visible. So, it appears that there is little to no chance of it coming back, at least not anytime soon.

Update 2 (Oct. 04, 2022)

04:41 pm (IST): Snapchat has received a new update on iOS with v12.02.0.31 which was said to bring Best Friend List. However, it didn’t bring this feature.

Update 3 (Oct. 05, 2022)

Update 5 (Oct. 12, 2022)

10:50 am (IST): Snapchat has released a new v12.3.0.31 update and there’s no public best friends list. The company’s support team put an end to the rumor as well. So rest assured, it won’t be coming any time soon, if at all.
