Original story (published on August 08, 2022) follows:

Discovery Plus is one of the most used streaming services on the Roku platform.

Since its launch on January 4, 2021, the main focus has been on providing quality programs from Discovery’s main channel brands, as well as original series, and other content.

Discovery Plus ‘Closed captioning’ not working on Roku devices

According to multiple reports, Closed captioning is not working for Discovery Plus users on Roku devices (1,2,3,4,5).

Affected Roku owners have turned closed captions on, but they are still unable to see captions on any Discovery Plus content on their smart TV. However, they work fine on Android and iOS apps.

Roku devices don’t seem to be the cause of this issue as many users tried closed captioning on other channels and it works fine. So it’s an issue related to Discovery Plus only.

Yes, I have a problem on all captions programs on Discovery +. Also, I have noticed many of my shows from Travel Channel are no longer streaming on Discovery +. Something slid right into the soup.

Some have tried troubleshooting methods like turning their Roku device off and back on again, resetting it, and even logging in and out of their Discovery Plus accounts. But none of these fixed the issue.

One user allegedly claimed that developers are aware of this issue and are working on it. But there is no ETA for a fix yet.

I heard back from the help desk and from the developer on the AppStore. Both of them said they are aware of the issue and are working to fix it. I guess it is a waiting game now…
