Original story (published on August 26, 2022) follows:

Android Auto is a smart driving companion that helps people stay focused, connected and entertained with the help of Google Assistant.

Android Auto also brings the power of Android phone to a car’s display. One can interact with Google Assistant by simply saying ‘OK Google’ and get various important tasks done even while driving.

But lately, many are facing an issue (1, 2, 3) where Android Auto is not connecting outgoing call for users. Even when the dialing process begins, a call never gets connected.

Same exact problem (calls not going through) Android Auto on both of my cars, 2017 Corvette and 2020 Ford Escape (Titanium). Just started last few months. Running version Android 9 on my Samsung 8.

Same here. The voice replies that it calls the contact and nothing happens after that.

The issue has been affecting Android users for months now. Every time someone uses a voice command to make outgoing calls, Android Auto says that it’s calling the person but disconnects abruptly.

A similar bug with Android Auto not connecting outgoing call was previously escalated to the team, but it appears that it’s yet to be addressed.

It seems that Android Auto is functioning well and also accomplishing other voice commands. It’s just the command related to calls that isn’t going through.

Same issue. It does however allow me to text and recognizes all other voice commands

Fortunately, the team is aware of the issue, if a comment from an affected user is to be believed.

Moreover, a community specialist also released a statement asking affected users for a bug report from their devices to diagnose the root cause of the issue.

Hi everyone, Thanks for reporting this issue. It would be great if you could send us a bug report from your phone to diagnose the root cause of the issue. We’ll send an email with the instructions on how to capture a bug report. Please reply directly to the email with your information. Thanks!

Potential workaround

Previously, affected users were able to fix this issue by rolling back to an older version of the Google app. Granted, those having the outgoing call bug can try the same by downgrading to v13.19.10.23 of the app.

That said, Android Auto 8 has just begun rolling out. Users can try installing the update once it’s available to see if it fixes the problem, although there’s no mention of a fix.
