Telegram formatting options (Bold, Italic & Underline) missing for iOS 16 users, but there's a potential workaround

Telegram recently launched a new update that provides users more emoji options to convey their emotions in chat.

The messaging app also enables users to format their text messages by making them bold, italicized, underlined and more.

Hey @telegram I just updated my iPhone to iOS 16 and I can’t find formatting menu of a selected text inside tg. Where is it? App is also updated to the latest version.

@telegram Since iOS 16 – it seems that the formatting options are gone when you highlight text, are you aware of this?

When I used to select a message, there would be that B/I/U button that would let me format the text I wrote. Now that I installed the iOS 16 developer beta, that button doesn’t show up anymore. I’m aware that I can put characters around the text I want to format but it’s a little go complicated. Is this a telegram, or ios problem?

Earlier, there was an ‘B/I/U’ option that allowed users to format the selected/highlighted text. But it has seemingly disappeared after installing the latest iOS update.

The problem seems to have existed even when iOS 16 was still in its beta testing phase.

It has also been alleged by one of the users that iOS 16 is responsible for breaking the formatting functionality.

Official acknowledgment and potential workaround

Fortunately, Telegram team has acknowledged the issue where formatting options have gone missing.

While the team is working on a fix, those affected can try using the markdown shortcuts in order to format their text.
