New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on September 15, 2021) follows:
YouTube is one of the most visited websites on the internet, right after Google. It has also retained its position as one of the largest online video-sharing platforms for years now.
Even though the service has more than 2 billion users, there are many bugs and issues that affect users on the platform. In fact, it is riddled with so many bugs that we have a dedicated YouTube bug tracker.
One of the reasons behind it is that the video-sharing service has a large set of features and is available on a multitude of platforms. Having said that, many are now reporting a new bug with the comment feature.
According to reports, users say they are unable to comment on YouTube videos and are instead greeted with a ‘This action isn’t allowed’ error.
The comment section of YouTube is one of the most important aspects that allow people to interact with others and share whatever they feel like.
For content creators, it is the main way of interacting with their viewers and getting direct feedback from their viewers.
Every time I try to comment on either the app or the website, I get that message. The thing is, I’ve searched this phrase in this help center, and people are saying that it’s because their account has been suspended. But I don’t think mine has, as I haven’t even gotten an email about it, and I can watch and like videos fine. Can someone please help?

So many were angry when they found out they couldn’t leave a comment on any video. While YouTube does prevent suspended accounts from commenting on videos, users said their account wasn’t suspended.
People say they have tried contacting YouTube support and appealed to the company, but there was no response. Clearing the data and reinstalling updates doesn’t seem to be working either.
It looks like users were unable to comment on YouTube because users were using VPN. Turning off VPN seems to have resolved the issue for some.
While it is still unclear why YouTube and Google are doing so, people who cannot access YouTube without a VPN are now unable to comments on videos.
We think YouTube is blocking certain VPN IP addresses because of spamming issues, but it looks like their approach is affecting VPN users in general.
YouTube is yet to acknowledge the issue. That said, we will report back with more details as and when we get new information.
Update 1 (September 17)
11:03 am (IST): YouTube now says that the issue where users were unable to post comments on the platform has since been fixed.
Update 2 (December 09)
10:51 am (IST): One of the affected users now notes that a workaround to this commenting issue is disabling VPN if it is being used.
Hey this happened to me too – my VPN on my phone was producing the action not allowed message. Maybe that helps.
