Original story (published on December 22, 2021) follows:

Many DirecTV subscribers have been left furious as they are unable to watch the NFL Sunday Ticket program over the past hour or so as it’s not working.

Reports have been snowballing on Twitter and other social platforms such as Reddit. Viewers claim that their viewing experience came to an abrupt halt as they started getting the message that the broadcast has already run for much of its broadcast time and aren’t able to purchase it.

Here are some complaints from disgruntled viewers for reference:

Wouldn’t know @DIRECTV won’t let me watch it even though I bought Sunday ticket. Sad times. I will have to hit up McDonald’s breakfast for a cheer up (Source)

@sctn4elk@DIRECTV this is bullshit. I pay for NFL Sunday Ticket and now the Seahawks vs Rams game is trying to charge me $70 and won’t let me finish the game. WTF is going on. (Source)

@DIRECTV I have nfl Sunday ticket. I was flipping back and forth between the fox game and the game on nfl Sunday ticket this Tuesday December 21. Then a message came up on the Sunday ticket channel saying this showing is past it’s purchase window. Now I can’t watch it?? (Source)

While the service does prevent viewers from paying money for broadcasts that are near their end, in this case, the preventative measure pops up even though viewers already purchased their PPV slots.

The image shared by an individual below shows the message that started popping up for many viewers:

As a result of this, most viewers were unable to watch the end of the Washington Football Team vs Philadelphia Eagles game on DirecTV. Now, viewers are facing issues with other games too.

That said, DirecTV has come out to confirm that they are aware of the situation and are currently working to resolve the problem.

Hey Chris, we’re aware of this situation and working to get it fixed as soon as possible. We also like to check options to help you out. (Source)

While that’s good to hear, there’s no ETA for the fix. However, it’s likely that the issue will be addressed sooner rather than later.

But it’s unclear how the company will compensate viewers for cutting off their game mid-way.

In any case, we’ll keep tabs on the situation and will post an update if and when we come across any further developments regarding NFL Sunday Ticket not working on DirecTV.
