[Update: iOS too] BeReal 'add friends' not working (requests don't show or cannot be accepted) on Android? Here's a potential fix

BeReal is a social media platform that has been gaining popularity since mid-2022 and comes with all the best features of other platforms but is comparatively less intense.

Making users share a photo at least once a day at any given time in a small window of time, brings candidness to the photos shared on social media platforms.

But according to many BeReal users, the ‘add friends’ function is currently not working for them on their Android devices (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8).

In order to add a friend on BeReal, you have to open your profile and tap on the ‘Add Friend’ button to send them a friend request. However, due to an issue, the button refreshes but a request is not sent.

Also, in some cases a ‘friend request accepted’ message can be seen, but the profile still displays a ‘request pending’ status. The intended recipient of the request never gets added to the list of friends.

Others say that their friends’ suggestions section (mutual friends) is empty as well. Usually, people in a user’s contacts or mutual friends they haven’t added are displayed in this section.

@BeReal_App I’ve had the app installed for about a week and I just cannot add people. When I press the add button it just doesn’t do anything. What can I do to make it work?

Suggestions tab is empty. My girlfriends suggestions tab is full of her contacts and suggested friends, but when I go to mine it’s completely empty. Anyone have an idea why?

Multiple reports suggest that this issue seems to be troubling Android users only (1,2,3) for now.

Cant add friends on Android? I push the blue Add button and nothing happens.
Any idea? I see the add button on the list of contacts who have it, I push it, get almost a half circle thing to show up, and then nothing else happens.

Troubleshooting methods like clearing the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and restarting the phone also don’t seem to work.

Due to this, BeReal users are displeased as they are unable to add new friends or accept friend requests.

Meanwhile, there is a potential solution to this problem. All you need to do is uninstall the app, opt into the app’s beta testing program in the Google Play Store and download it again:
