[Updated] Disney Dreamlight Valley 'A Friendly Exchange' bugged or not progressing? Try these workarounds

What’s more exciting than seeing your favorite Disney and Pixar characters come to life in an adventure game that lets players embark on various fascinating quests.

However, we’ve been witnessing many bugs and issues with the game lately. For instance, the ‘With Great Power’ quest recently stopped progressing for many players.

And now, many players (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) have been reporting an issue where they are unable to complete ‘A Friendly Exchange’ quest as it is not registering progress.

I’m in the ‘a friendly exchange quest’ and at the point where I have to just listen to wall-e talk to Ariel but they are just not interacting together at all. I’ve tried different areas and turning the game off and on. Not sure how to fix this

I can’t complete Wall-E quest “A Friendly Exchange”. I gave all the items to Wall-E, but he doesn’t talk to Ariel.

The quest requires players to listen to Wall-E and Ariel as they exchange gifts. But the conversation between these characters never starts thus making it impossible to complete the quest.

Even when the characters are right in front of each other, they don’t really initiate a conversation. The issue persists among other characters too like Anna and Kristoff, Ariel and Eric and so on.

Players unable to pick up light bulb

Apart from Ariel and Wall-E not talking, Disney Dreamlight Valley players (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) are also facing an issue where they are unable to collect or pick up the light bulb.

I can’t pick up the light bulb in wall-e’s house for his quest with Ariel. It spawns in the middle of his house and there’s no interact button when I walk up to it. Has anyone else had this issue?

so I’m trying to finish wall-e’s level 10 friendship quest. I’ve found everything but it won’t let me pick up the light bulb. my inventory is not full and the button to pick it up doesn’t pull up.

In the ‘A Friendly Exchange’ quest, players are required to collect some items in order to trade in Ariel. But, many are unable to acquire the light bulb found in Wall-E’s house.

Disney Dreamlight Valley players have been successful in collecting other items like the bowling pin and toy train but stand clueless when it comes to getting the light bulb.

So far, the developers have only acknowledged the issue where players are unable to collect light bulb in ‘A Friendly Exchange’ quest.

Potential workarounds

Fortunately, we have come across some workarounds that can possibly help fix both issues. Players facing issues with Ariel and Wall-E not conversing can try talking to them separately for a potential fix.

i had to make sure wall e wasn’t hanging out with me and then i talked to him and ariel separately and for some reason that finally triggered them talking to eachother lol

Affected players can also try waiting for the two characters to start talking themselves.

I found just waiting is best. Move on to something else. Go collect resources or something. Hang out with a different buddy. Eventually you’ll see the characters on the map next to each other not moving. That’s when they’re ready to talk. Just walking up near them, but not too close, should trigger the speech bubbles above their heads.

Last but not the least, simply leaving and rejoining the game seems to solve the issue as well.

For those who are unable to interact with the light bulb should start positioning their characters at random distances and wait for the ‘E Pick Up’ option to flash.

I was walking around it a few times and noticed that “E Pick up” was flashing for a second at a certain spot. If you stand directly in front of it you can’t pick it up, but if you stand at a bit of a distance you should be able to, if I remember correctly I had my back turned to the wall.

We hope that the issue where ‘A Friendly Exchange’ quest is not progressing in Disney Dreamlight Valley gets fixed soon.

06:35 pm (IST): Here’s a potential workaround suggested by one of those affected that might help you fix this issue.

Update: I gave it a couple of days & tried some workarounds that ultimately didn’t work. I then noticed Wall-e going to the same part of the beach everytime but Ariel never swam there, I had a house right next to where he was so I moved that over and then Ariel came & spoke! (Source)

03:54 pm (IST): Here’s another workaround suggested by one of those affected that might help you fix the issue with the ‘A Friendly Exchange’ quest.

I moved Wall-E’s house onto the beach next to Ariel’s house and they had a conversation almost immediately and I finished the A Friendly Exchange quest.😃 (Source)

06:19 pm (IST): A Redditor has suggested a workaround that might help you resolve the issue with ‘A Friendly Exchange’ quest.

Workaround: This might be similar to the quest where you have to clean Donald’s boat and you can’t pick up a certain item. I bypassed it by dropping an item I didn’t care about on the floor and strangely enough, I was finally able to pickup the bugged item. It might be worth a try for this too. (Source)

12:57 pm (IST): Disney Dreamlight Valley has revealed the details of its upcoming patch which includes bug fixes. However, it does not mention any fix for ‘A Friendly Exchange’ quest.

05:35 pm (IST): Disney Dreamlight Valley support on Twitter has confirmed that the issue with ‘A Friendly Exchange’ will be resolved in the upcoming update. However, they did not provide any ETA for the same.

05:18 pm (IST): Disney Dreamlight Valley support has confirmed that they will release an update for the game that will include a fix for ‘A Friend Exchange’ quest bug.

05:48 pm (IST): Responding to a user’s complaint, Disney Dreamlight Valley support said that they will soon share more info on the fix. However, they didn’t provide any ETA for the same.

18:48 pm (IST): According to a Redditor, the patch with the fix for ‘A Friendly Exchange’ bug could arrive on October 19.

You wait for the patch on 10/19 🥴🥴🥴…I’m waiting on the same!! 😭 My light bulb is in the middle of the floor but I cannot pick it up. A fix is coming with this week’s update.

02:15 pm (IST): Disney Dreamlight Valley’s latest update comes with a fix for the issue where players are unable to pick up the light bulb during the WALL-E Quest.

Fixed an issue which prevented players picking up the lightbulb in WALL·E’s house.
