New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on July 26, 2022) follows:

Trello is one of the most popular list-making applications developed by Trello Enterprise, which happens to be a subsidiary of Atlassian.

Initially released in 2011, it had more than 50 million registered users as of August 2021 and 1.1 million daily active users. People can collaborate using boards, lists, and cards.

Unsurprisingly, the application has integrations for third-party softwares like Microsoft Outlook. Users can add the Trello Add-in button that lets them create Trello cards using email.

But according to recent reports from Microsoft Outlook users, the Trello Add-in button is not working or missing for some.

This seems to have upset a lot of people who were reliant on the integration to create cards on their Trello board. Some say they are getting a ‘The card could not be added. Please try again!’ error message when trying to do so.

Hi there, love Trello and how it integrates into Outlook. This morning, when hitting the button to add a card to Trello, it keeps stating Sorry, could not be added. Try Again/ I have tried uninstalling and making sure there are not PC updates outstanding. All to no avail. Please help!!

I’ve been looking everywhere for a definitive answer for this question, but can’t seem to find one. Out of the blue, Trello has stopped making cards via the Outlook add-in on 22/06/22 – with the error message “The card could not be added. Please try again!” appearing for users.

The users are currently using a free plan for enterprise purposes – they previously utilised a Trello Gold plan prior to the discontinuation of it in August 2021.

As it turns out, a user commented on the matter and said they allegedly contacted Microsoft who clarified that the issue is being looked into by the concerned team.

Microsoft has told me they can’t do anything, Trello said:
Our team is still looking into this, and since the integration is owned by Microsoft, our integrations manager will reach out to Microsoft for further investigation. I will keep you posted on further updates.

We hope Trello and Microsoft developers work together and fix the Outlook Add-in button not working issue as soon as possible. Rest assured, we will be updating this space when we come across more information so stay tuned.

Update 1 (September 9, 2022)

07:04 pm (IST): Microsoft has announced that they will be retiring Outlook add-in for Trello on December 15, 2022. And this could be the reason why users are facing issue with the Add-in button. More on that here.
