It was quite exciting for Android users when Twitter finally added a simple yet useful feature of selecting text in a tweet.

This feature facilitated a swift process of copying and sharing contents of any tweet by long-pressing on it.

However, it seems that it never worked to the best of its capacity. We also highlighted how Android users once started experiencing issues with tweet, retweet and quote tweet.

Twitter ‘Copy to clipboard’ function not working

Many Android users are now facing an issue where they are no longer able to use the ‘Copy to clipboard’ function (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) on Twitter.

The issue seems to have popped up with the update to v9.51 of the app, at least based on our testing. As a consequence, long pressing on a tweet doesn’t copy the text in question to the clipboard.

This broken functionality of the ‘Copy to clipboard’ feature is preventing users from easily copying and re-sharing contents of tweets.

Users are now annoyed as this feature came in quite handy. It also allowed them to share tweets swiftly and easily.

Official acknowledgment and potential workarounds

Fortunately, Twitter has acknowledged the issue where ‘Copy to clipboard’ function is not working. The team is also working on a fix.

Meanwhile, affected users can try a workaround that involves the following steps. It works on both mobile app and website.

copy tweet link > paste > remove the characters starting from the ? > replace with /video/1

We also tested the various versions of the app and established that installing an older version (v9.50 or older) of the app fixes the issue as well. You can download the APK file here.

That said, we’ll keep tabs on further developments and update the article accordingly.
