It seems that things haven’t been going down very well with Twitter lately. There’s a new issue with the micro-blogging app every now and then.

It becomes even more concerning when issues start affecting Twitter’s algorithm and analytics. That said, Twitter analytics recently stopped working properly for many users.

Now, an issue supposedly linked to the algorithm is affecting ‘Who to follow’ section and the kind of accounts that are recommended there.

Twitter ‘Who to follow’ shows blocked, muted accounts or already followed accounts

Many Twitter users (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) are facing an issue where their ‘Who to follow’ page is just showing blocked or muted accounts.

hey just an idea maybe make it so the ‘who to follow’ section can’t suggest you to follow people you have blocked just incase maybe i didn’t want to see them @TwitterSupport

@TwitterSupport WHY is Twitter suggesting someone who I’ve blocked and who has blocked me in the ‘Who to follow list’? Get this suggestion off my account!

It is quite absurd for Twitter to show blocked or muted accounts in the ‘Who to follow’ section. It is because users generally restrict or block some accounts for a reason.

In addition to that, Twitter is also recommending accounts that the users already follow (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), making the entire section essentially useless.

This issue has now left some users speculating if Twitter’s algorithm is bugged.

Official acknowledgment

Fortunately, Twitter has acknowledged the issue where ‘Who to follow’ shows blocked, muted or already followed accounts. The team is also working towards resolving it.
