Discord unable to send or download images & videos, issue acknowledged
Here’s the crux of the article in video form:
Discord is a popular communication platform that offers free VoIP, text, and video chat services along with unique features for gamers such as Twitch integration.
It allows its users to upload videos, images, emojis, and GIFs to communities and friends. It’s designed in a way that makes it easy for people to create communities and keep in touch with each other.
Discord users unable to send or download images and videos
But currently, some Discord users are facing an issue where they are unable to send or download images and videos in channels or via DM (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).

Basically, when one sends a file in image or video format, a progress bar starts to fill up. But the file fails to upload and an error message that says ‘Upload failed’ is displayed on the screen.
Similarly, when they try to download images or videos on the Discord platform, they receive an error message that says “Download failed” on the screen.
The send or download function fails every time and it happens irrespective of the file sizes.
Also, this issue does not seem to affect any particular platform as there are reports from PC and mobile users.

I couldn’t send a photo in a server, so I asked my friend to, and she couldn’t, so I asked my other friend to and my other friend couldn’t, either. We all live in very different places. Gifs still work off tenor, and on PC it’s actively saying ‘upload failed’. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Legit, it’s been horrible to use today. Photos were no longer loading on my data connection, and some channel names are simply, “…” No idea what they changed besides some of the UI, but good god, it’s been a nightmare.

From the look of it, the Discord ‘Instant upload’ function seems to be the cause of this issue as users are able to send images using the normal copy function.
Some tried troubleshooting methods like clearing the cache, logging in and out of Discord, and restarting their devices but the issue still persists.
Issue acknowledged
On the brighter side, the Discord support team recently stated that the company is aware of the issue and is investigating it. But there is no ETA for a fix yet.
