Microsoft Teams is a business communication platform developed by Microsoft. It offers users capabilities such as video conferencing, file storage, and integration of apps.

It is part of the Microsoft 365 suite launched to replace Microsoft Classroom and Skype for Business and has gained over 270 million monthly users as of now.

Microsoft Teams’ prominent feature is letting users connect with each other for smooth virtual meetings and video calls. But it stands pointless when it doesn’t fulfill that function.

That said, over the past few days, the Microsoft Teams camera has not been working for some users (1, 2, 3). It merely flashes a black screen when someone enters a meeting.

Owing to the issue, those affected are unable to see attendees and sometimes attendees can’t see them.

does anyone here have any experience with Microsoft Teams? Specifically why the heck my screen looks like this when logging in for a tutoring session? I’ve restarted the meeting twice and this is my screen instead of my usual camera showing up…

I just done an event using NDI with some “speakers” using their own webcam connected to TEAMS (so far all good), and i don’t know why but for one speaker, the video display disappear and i receive the TEAMS purple background instead , what is i want to avoid for a live session….with customers.

It seems Microsoft Teams is not recognizing the webcam. Sometimes, the onboard camera on a device works fine but external cameras don’t.

Potential workarounds

Fortunately, Microsoft has acknowledged the issue with Teams camera not working through a service alert issued to organizations. A fix should be available for everyone by the end of August.

We have also come across a few workarounds that can possibly help fix the issue.

A Redditor suggested disabling GPU hardware acceleration, clearing all cache folders, uninstalling Teams app and finally reinstalling it.

I had this issue with a Logitech USB camera. I uninstalled the camera drivers and that fixed it for me. Didn’t have any other issues with the camera in other apps.

Users can also “pin for me” or spotlight the video feeds to see them again later.

Nevertheless, we’ll keep tabs on the issue and update the article as and when an official word or a definite fix is out.
