The Nothing Phone (1) impressed most smartphone enthusiasts with its incredibly unique and futuristic design. It inspired other smartphone brands to try something different in today’s arguably stagnant smartphone market.

Doogee plans to have a similar effect with its all-new S89 series, a pair of rugged phones with beautiful RGB light effects on the back. However, that’s not the only unique thing about the lineup.

The S89 series devices are packed with massive 12,000 mAh batteries for those who appreciate a longer screen-on time.

While the Nothing Phone (1) calls its light effects the ‘Glyph Interface’, Doogee advertises theirs as ‘Breathing Light’.

The major difference is that Doogee’s Breathing Light comes with RGB light effects while the Glyph Interface is limited to a white color.

Users can even customize the colors according to their preference and assign them to various functions on their smartphone.

The customization doesn’t end here, users will also be able to control other aspects like the light pattern and speed and even select colors to glow in a specific sequence.

Does all of this seem familiar? Well, it’s because the S89 series is the successor to the previous Doogee S88 series.

To this day, The S88 lineup with their huge 10,000 mAh batteries and RGB lights are one of the best-selling series released by the company.

Doogee claims that they have found a way to successfully fit a 12,000 mAh battery into the S89 series’ 19.4mm thick case.

Engineering such a massive battery into a phone and still managing to keep the weight under 400g is incredibly impressive.

However, the bigger the battery, the more time it needs to charge back to 100%. Fortunately, Doogee’s fast charging technology seems capable enough to match its large battery ambitions.

The S89 Pro will be the first rugged phone to ship with a 65W charger. It is powerful enough to charge the battery from 0 to 100% in about 2 hours. However, the S89 only comes with a 33W charger.

The triple camera setup on the S89 series is equally impressive. The S89 Pro features a 64MP + 20MP + 8MP setup on the back of the device. While the S89 comes with a 48MP + 20MP + 8MP setup.

The main cameras on these devices have been carefully tuned to capture the best shot possible.

The 20 MP sensors are primarily for night vision and the 8MP sensors are for ultra-wide shots. All of the rear sensors used on the S89 series are built by Sony.

Now let’s get to the performance. The S89 series is powered by the mighty MediaTek Helio P90 chipset.

The S89 Pro comes with a base memory configuration of 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The S89 comes with the same amount of RAM (8GB) but 128GB of internal storage.

Both the S89 Series devices are water and dustproof with an IP68 and IP69K rating. The MIL-STD-810H certification makes the phones drop-proof and even more rugged.

Other features like the Android 12 OS, NFC functionality, reverse charging, custom buttons, and many more make the S89 series an impressive overall package.

Pricing, availablity and giveaways
