In the video game industry, there are only a handful of companies that make sports games. One of the most popular wrestling games is WWE 2k22. Developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports, it was released on March 11.

The latest installment in the long-running franchise has separate stories for both male and female characters. The gameplay involves making alliances and enemies with choices affecting the campaign.

But as is the case with every recently released game, it looks like WWE 2k22 players are facing (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) an issue where the game is crashing in Universe mode. The problem seems to have surfaced after the recent 1.05 update.

Players said they tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, clearing cache, and even hard resetting their console but nothing seems to help.

I mean I’ve genuinely seen no studio, other than 2K to break a game with a post launch patch, yes there was minor immersion breaking glitches prior but I’d take that over crashing when starting a regular match, starting universe, changing CAWs, being in deletion utility etc. this is a travesty 2K I know I’ve already made a post like this today but not being able to play a normal match was the last straw for now, hope it gets fixed soon, not playing until next patch, and if not fixed by then, won’t play for a while.

Our Universe Mode crashed and corrupted day 1 after putting a good amount of work setting it all up and stuff. Definitely not touching that mode until it’s fixed. There are a ton of other bugs and issues but at least the game is still playable with those, the crash –> corruption however is ridiculous. Said it before, way more solid of a game than expected, that unfortunately still feels like it’s in alpha.

Unfortunately, it looks like the developers are yet to acknowledge the WWE 2k22 Universe Mode crashing issue. But luckily, we came across some workarounds that might help with the problem.

The first one involves deleting all saves and starting from scratch. Another solution that seems to have stopped the crashing issues is to use no more than 280 ‘Custom Images’ and restrict the save game files to under 100MB.

If you have 280 or less slots used under “Custom Images” (can check this using deletion utility) The game seems to work fine. If you go over 280 “Custom Images” slots used, the game crashes in a lot of modes, especially when trying to access/use custom arenas. Tested this on PS5 and then also a PS4 save as well. The total file size was less than 100mb for both systems.

01:14 pm (IST): The support team is now asking the affected users to submit a ticket and share more information on this issue in order to help them further investigate it.

Update 2 (March 15)

11:36 am (IST): A user alleges that WWE 2k 2022 devs are working on a patch to fix this issue as soon as possible.

Update 3 (March 16)

04:04 pm (IST): The user — RibbieWWE — again posted an update on the crashing issue and claims that WWE devs are working hard to fix it as soon as possible. However, he did not provide any ETA for the fix.

Update 4 (March 18)

04:00 pm (IST): An individual claims that a corrupted file could be the reason why the game is crashing. Here’s what they suggest doing to fix it.

One of the files is corrupted. Try going to Delete Utility and see which one. And if so Delete it. This happen to me (Source)

Update 5 (March 19)

12:35 pm (IST): An individual shared what appears to be a screenshot of an alleged email from 2K support regarding the crashing issue with the game where the team has confirmed that the developers are aware of the problem. However, there’s no ETA for a fix.

Update 6 (March 21)

04:20 pm (IST): Players previously reported crashing issues when they had around 200 MB of custom files (Downloads). But now, gamers say that the game crashes even with 60 MB of files. This means that the downloads are currently broken.

Update 7 (March 22)

03:46 pm (IST): WWE 2K22 has announced that they will release update 1.06 tomorrow with improvements for logo use, Create, ladder bridges, and general gameplay. We hope that it also brings a fix for the crashing issue in Universe Mode.

Update 8 (March 23)

06:01 pm (IST): WWE 2k22 is getting a new 1.06 patch, but it does not mention any fix for the crashing issue. However, there are some general stability and performance improvements.

Update 9 (August 12)

11:42 am (IST): Many WWE 2K22 players are again reporting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) that the game is crashing or freezing for them while playing in Universe mode.
