New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on August 01, 2022) follows:

Wemo is a series of products that lets you control your electronic devices from your phone or tablet. It uses your existing home WiFi network to provide wireless control of lamps, fans, smart plugs, and more.

You control your devices using the Wemo app or by voice command using Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant.

Wemo not working on Google Home

Recently, multiple Wemo users are now reporting an issue where multiple devices are not working or connecting to Google Home, and they are receiving a “Could not access Wemo, please try again” error message (1,2,3,4,5).

Many use Google Assistant to control their Wemo devices but now when they instruct it to switch off lights or give any other command, they get an error message.

@WEMOcares Google Home is having issues linking to my WEMO account. Getting a “Could not reach WeMo. Please try again.” WeMo app on Android works and can still operate WeMo devices. However, Google Assistant voice commands are not toggling WeMo devices.

I’m having the same issue as many others with Wemo not linking with google home or google devices. Tried unlinking and re-linking and google home app says “Wemo is linked” immediately followed by “something went wrong. Try again”. The issue started about 4-5 days ago suddenly.

As it turns out, Wemo support is aware of this issue and has escalated it to their team for further investigation. Unfortunately, there is no ETA for a fix yet.

Potential workaround

Until new related developments emerge, there are some potential workarounds provided by Wemo support that could help you. First, try to reboot your phone and relink your Wemo devices to the Google Home app.

Secondly, try a network reboot including affected Wemo devices and Google Home.

Thanks for letting us know about this, Kyle. Are the other non-Wemo devices working fine with Google? Let’s try a network reboot including the Wemo devices and Google Home, then see how it goes. Feel free to update us over DM and we’ll take it from there.

Also, try uninstalling the Google Home app, then unlink/relink each Wemo device to Google Home for isolation.

Let us know in the comments down below if the workarounds fix the issue for you. Also, we will be updating this article when we come across more information so make sure you keep checking this space.
