New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on July 27, 2022) follows:
Initially designed with teams and businesses in mind, Google Chat is one of the most popular communication services. The service was made available to general users in April last year.
Launched in March of 2017, users have the option to send direct messages, have group conversations and even create personal spaces which can be used to assign tasks and share files.
The communication service also benefits from the security offered by Google Workspace and features like Data Loss prevention, Admin Settings, Vault Retention among others.
Google also announced they will be shutting down Hangouts and migrate all users to Chat starting November this year. It is available on popular mobile operating systems like Android and iOS and features a web version as well.
That said, recent reports from Google Chat users suggest notifications are not working on both Android as well as iOS versions of the app. Many are frustrated since it is negatively affecting their productivity.
Some tried reinstalling the app, clearing app data and cache on Android, and disabling battery saver but nothing seems to help fix the problem.
Below are a few reports from Google Chat users complaining about notifications not working on Android as well as iOS.

Connection issues on iOS — new messages don’t come in unless I open the app. Ever since switching to Chat from Hangouts, I’m having connection issues on the iOS app. I’ll have people text me asking why I’m not responding to their messages. Then I’ll open the Chat app, there’s a gray bar at the top that says, “Connecting…” and after some time, my new messages appear, some from hours ago.

No Google Chat Notifications. Around 6:30-7pm EST I stopped getting chat notifications. Others using chat are not getting notifications either. All settings are correct and I changed nothing. On Android.
