New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on July 25, 2022) follows:

Launched in 2008 when the internet was still in its teenage years, Google Chrome is one of the most popular web browsers on the planet.

What’s interesting is that Chrome took just 7 years to overthrow Internet Explorer and establish its dominance as the world’s most used browser.

And with the increase in the number of users accessing the web on mobile devices, it looks like Chrome will comfortably maintain its lead in the coming years.

That said, it is far from perfect with many recently complaining about bugs and issues like the browser showing only one search result and YouTube lagging after the recent Chrome v103 update.

Adding to the trouble, many Google Chrome users are reporting that the search by voice feature is broken or not working (1,2,3,4,5).

It looks like the voice search feature is recognizing the word but is not typing any of it in the search bar, rendering it unusable for many.

Generic troubleshooting solutions like clearing cache and cookies, resetting browser settings, and even reinstalling Chrome are not helping fix the issue.

Chrome “Search by voice” is broken. Search by voice only responds when I first open the app. After clicking the microphone everything looks normal; my words are typed within the search bar as I speak them, but then the page does not go to any results, but instead Chrome acts as if the question was never asked — even the words that were spoken and translated from speech to text into the search prompt reset back to whatever was there before the search by voice was initiated.

Google search by voice on my desktop suddenly stopped working. The microphone flashes when I’m talking so it can hear me has suddenly stopped answering. It goes back to a clear search screen. I have checked permissions on both Google & windows 11, There hasn’t been any changes made to the hardware & I uninstalled & reinstalled Chrome but no luck

Unfortunately, we did not come across any official word from Google regarding the broken voice search function.

We hope they soon take a look at the user feedback and release an update in the coming days that fixes the issue with Chrome voice search not working.

Rest assured, we will be keeping tabs on further developments on the matter and update this space as and when we come across more information so make sure you stay tuned.
