[July 21, 2022: Teams down] Microsoft Teams down, Cox suffers major outage (Connect app for fix ETA)
This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (from Feb 18, 2019) follows:
This article is a collection of major outages and service disruptions that happened today…
Popular URL shorter service Bitly is currently down. If you try accessing the official Bitly website, you’ll either find it inaccessible or the website currently says:
Sorry, but bitly is getting a quick site refresh
Of course, users are taking to social media platforms to share the news.
And some are annoyed:
The official Bitly team hasn’t said anything so far about this site refresh, but we are looking for more details. Will update the story as and when we find more information.
The Bitly status page confirms it’s a major outage affecting Branded Short Domain Redirects, Website (Bitly.com), API, and Metrics. Bit.ly Redirects, however, are working fine.
The company has identified the root cause and is working to fix the problem. Here’s what the status page says:
We are currently investigating reports of major failures
We have identified the issue and are working with datacenter support teams to resolve
Bitly now says they’ve implemented a fix. So the problem should be over soon.
A fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results
As we can see, the site is back up now as well.
We are now again seeing user reports that say Bitly has gone down for them.
The official Bitly status page currently says everything is operational. Anyway, we are keeping a close tab, and will continue to offer updates here.

Microsoft has acknowledged the problem:
An affected user has shared a potential workaround that has worked in some cases.
Update: It appears to be an issue on the @MicrosoftTeams end. If you are receiving an error when trying to use Teams, logging out and logging back in is a potential workaround, but hasn't been successful in all cases. We'll keep you posted as soon as we have more information.— Wayne State C&IT (@WayneStateCIT) February 18, 2019
Try it out and let us know if it worked for you.
The service is slowly coming back up.
Although there are still intermittent issues.
Another update from Microsoft:
While Microsoft Teams outage is going on, we are seeing reports for outage as Internet, cable TV, phone and smart home services provider Cox. Here are a few reports:
For its part, Cox customer care is confirming area wise outages:
Many users are not able to reach customer care as well:
@CoxHelp @coxnortheast @CoxComm Your 855-516-4452 support line is not working properly. Going through the prompts to get tech support (2, 4, 2, zip code) yields one ringback tone as if the call is presented and then an immediate hangup. Possible holiday config enabled by mistake?— Tom (@TechnicallyTW) February 18, 2019
We’re looking for more info, and will offer regular updates here. So keep checking back.
No ETA for fix yet, at least for North Virginia region.

Users of popular game PokemonGo are now reporting an outage of sorts. Apparently, a new update has caused issues. For it’s part, a Niantic rep has confirmed the problem on Twitter.
@PokemonGoApp @NianticHelp You do realize that 0.135.0 is completely broken, right? You should retract the update because some people are getting it and can't play at all. This is ridiculous. @trnrtips @AlolanBunny— Mark (@keklar) February 18, 2019
We are aware of the issues and working toward a solution. Trust me, we are listening and we definitely want you to love and play the new update.— Liz 🍇 (@ItsLizGeorge) February 18, 2019
