[Update] Niantic Wayfarer forums 'Facebook login' unavailable or not working? You're not alone (workaround inside)

Niantic is one of the most popular software companies in the AR mobile gaming segment. They are responsible for AR-powered games such as Ingress, Pokemon Go, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Pikmin Bloom.

Niantic games are characterized by using real-world maps as the mapping of their games. They also use mobile devices’ cameras to ‘transport’ characters and creatures to the real world.

Similarly, Niantic games encourage physical activities by requiring walking to encounter items or characters across the map.

To post questions, experiences or bugs, Niantic offers the Wayfarer forums. Like other forums, Niantic Wayfarer allows you to login in different ways, which includes using your Facebook account.

However, currently many users are facing an issue where they are unable to login to the Niantic Wayfarer forums via Facebook.

According to multiple reports, many users are unable to access the Niantic Wayfarer forums through their Facebook accounts. Apparently they only get an ‘App not Setup’ error message.

Facebook Log In

Hello, Not sure if anyone else has had this same issue. But when logging into Niantic Wayfarer using Facebook log in this error message appears:

App Not Setup: This app is still in development mode, and you don’t have access to it. Switch to a registered test user or ask an app admin for permissions.

The issue reportedly has been present for a few hours:

Yes me three, was also quite frustrated that I could read your post here, but couldn’t comment as my Wayfarer Community login is also linked to Facebook. I was happily reviewing last night via facebook login, but not today, so something happened in the last 12 hours.

Have now created a gmail account to link Wayfarer to, so that I have an alternate means of logging in.

The Niantic team is aware of the issue and working closely with Facebook to resolve it.

However, there is a workaround that you can try. If your Niantic account is only linked to Facebook, you can access one of Niantic’s products (like Pokemon Go) and link a Google account to your Niantic account.

In Pokémon GO, go to Settings and Link your Google account there. Then you should be able to log in to Wayfarer using your Google account.

After that, you will be able to access your usual Niantic Wayfarer account, but through your Google credentials.

06:29 (IST): Since no more reports related to the issue have surfaced for a couple of days, it seems that the ‘Facebook login’ on Niantic Wayfarer forums is available again.
