SiriusXM is a broadcasting service that lets subscribers listen to ad-free music, live sports, and talk shows among other things.

Ever since the company completed its acquisition of Pandora, it has become one of the biggest audio entertainment companies in North America.

That said, many recently complained about issues like the Windows app showing a blank white screen and the Android app not working.

And as if this wasn’t troubling enough, those using SiriusXM on Roku are reporting that the app shuts down, turns off, or crashes after a period of time (1,2,3).

Many are still able to use the service for some time before it starts acting up. Common troubleshooting solutions like restarting and reinstalling the app make no difference.

I have been listening to SiriusXM via Roku since I got Roku. On Tuesday (or overnight Monday) it was updated on Roku to match the app I use for my online listening. I had to re-sign into my account, but my favorites etc were intact. Ever since then, SXM will play for only 20 minutes and then shut down, sending me back to Roku Home menu. I timed it. 20 minutes. I went over this with Roku yesterday: they say it’s not Roku. I spent an hour with SXM CSR just now; they say it’s not them. SXM is fine in car and on laptop. It is only since this Roku interface upgrade.

After an update to the SiriusXM application on my Roku Express it has become unstable and crashes back to the Home screen consistently. This did not occur with the previous version/build. Rebooting and a full power cycle does not alleviate the issue. SiriusXM Version 2.5 build 28 3930x – Roku Express Software version 11.0.0 build 4193-AE. The new graphics do look nicer but not at expense of having a stable application.

With reports dating to May this year, many are wondering if the problem will be resolved.

Thankfully, SiriusXM Help shed some light on the matter and said the issue is currently under investigation. But there is no ETA for the fix.

Hi, Will. Sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues with the Roku app. We’ve identified a few issues that may be interfering with your ability to listen to SiriusXM on Roku, and we’re working hard to fix them.

Also, we found a temporary workaround that might let users tune into SiriusXM for a couple of hours before it starts acting up.

It involves waiting for the app to stop working and afterwards, pressing the Home button on Roku, scrolling over to Settings > System > Power > and uncheck the ‘After 20 minutes of no interaction’ checkbox under ‘Auto Power savings’.

Restart the system to apply these changes. Although being a temporary workaround means you may have to keep doing this over and over until a permanent solution arrives.

Looks like changing the Power saving setting was not a permanent fix. After about 1 hour I could not change the channel and had to do another System Reset. Hopefully Roku gets the problem fixed soon.

We hope SiriumXM developers soon release an update that fixes the problem. When they do, we will be updating this space to reflect the same so stay tuned.
