Pokemon Go referral rewards not working or tracking, issue under investigation (workaround inside)
Developed and published by Niantic, Pokemon Go is one of the few Augmented Reality mobile games. Similar to Ingress, the title uses GPS to locate players in the real world.
With more than 71 million players, Pokemon Go generated over $1.21 billion in revenue last year. It is interesting to note that almost 38% of the total revenue comes from players living in the United States.
But in the last few days, players have complained about bugs like getting random team or party in battles and the ‘Make a new friend’ research task progression not working.
Adding to the trouble, Pokemon Go players are now facing another issue where referral rewards are not working or tracking for some.
Reports suggest players get the notification about their friends signing up with the game adding their badge but still are unable get the rewards. Some thought it was a visual bug and hence tried restarting the game but it isn’t helping either.
@NianticHelp referral milestones are broken. The friend finder medal goes up but the milestone tasks do not show up under the friend’s profile. In game support has not been able to help yet.
How do you view your friend referral rewards? When the feature first came out I referred a friend and going to their profile would show you the list of tasks and rewards you got for referring a friend. I recently referred 2 more friends and I got the notification that they signed up, but going to their profiles does not show me any tasks or rewards. It added them to my badge so I know the referral worked but how do I view the rewards and tasks? Thank you!
Thankfully, Niantic seems to be investigating the issue where Pokemon Go referral rewards are not working or tracking for some, but there is no ETA for when it will be fixed.
Sorry for the inconvenience, Trainer! We’re aware and investigating the issue with the referral feature. Please share the Trainer Nickname and associated email of your friend as well as your account via DM. We’ll look out for your message! ^LC
However, we came across a simple workaround that is reportedly working for those affected. If you add the new person as a friend and use the invitation code later, you will get referral rewards.
We hope Pokemon Go developers soon find out the reason why the referral rewards are not working and fix the problem at the earliest. As always, we will be updating this space when we come across more information so stay tuned.
