New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 20, 2022) follows:

In the last few years, DJI has made a name for itself when it comes to consumer drones. Based out of Shenzhen, the company also manufactures cameras, stabilizers, and flight control systems among many other things.

And as part of the US-China trade war, the US government has banned the use of DJI products internally, but several local and federal agencies still use them.

That said, DJI recently introduced the Mini 3 Pro. The lightweight drone can fly for a time period of up to 34 minutes and features 4K 60 fps recording.

While the hardware is impressive on paper, users have reported issues such as the quick transfer functionality not working on Android and DJI GO, DJI GO 4, DJI Pilot, and DJI Fly app crashing or not working.

And now, numerous DJI Mini 3 Pro users are complaining about poor signal or range (1,2,3,4,5). It looks like the range is lesser than the Mini 2 for some.

Many say the poor signal and range problem worsens when flying the drone in urban or congested areas.

Has anyone else noticed after the latest update that flying with the RC Pro at a distance away the signal drops 1 bar from full then suddenly its dead. Previously it would gradually drop a signal bar at a time until it goes to red before a disconnect. Today 2 flights same area and it went from full to drop 1 bar to no signal and when it reconnects the signal bar is zero and then in red. I could flly this same area before with n isses prior to the 0700 update. Still have no Airsense has well, a medic helicopter went over and was 1km from drone and no warning at all.

I’m located in Canada and have had about 6 to 7 different flights now each around 20-25 mins flight time, all in different locations. One thing remains constant though, the range is terrible. I’m lucky to get 600m away from the RC before I start dropping bars and get a weak signal warning and have to turn back. This is really bad for a $1000+ drone. This is with the RC with the screen built in. I’m not sure what kind of range other people are getting but I’m very disappointed.

Unfortunately, the company is yet to officially comment on the matter. However, we stumbled upon a possible reason why DJI Mini 3 Pro users might be facing range and signal issues.

It looks like the RC controller makes use of the 2.4GHz frequency to connect to the drone even in crowded areas instead of 5.8GHz, which should make things better.

You can see in the transmission tab in the controller which frequency it is using to communicate with the drone and change it from there. In case you are still unsure, watch the video below to learn more about the problem.

Update 1 (July 6)

04:06 pm (IST): According to a Redditor, DJI support has confirmed via an email that the range issue will be fixed through a firmware update.
