New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 30, 2022) follows:

Currently, Google Chrome is the most used web browser worldwide. It offers multiple features that make it the favorite of many.

Google Chrome is one of the browsers that use the base of the Chromium open-source project code. However, Google adds its own features that set it apart from other Chromium-based browsers.

The browser recently received its 103.0.5060.53 stable update. However, it seems that the update brought multiple issues to the Google Chrome UI where colors are distorted, washed or overexposed.

Google Chrome colors distorted, overexposed or washed after 103.0.5060.53 update

According to multiple reports, Google Chrome 103.0.5060.53 update causes the browser interface to behave erratically.

After the update, Google Chrome colors are displayed inverted in certain segments of the UI for some users.

In other cases, Google Chrome colors are randomly washed out.

@googlechrome Team, that last update is doing some wonky stuff to my browser window. Colors wash out horribly (and at random). Weird stuff. Version 103.0.5060.53 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Also, some users report over-exposure and HDR issues:

Over-exposed on non-HDR monitor

After todays update to 103.0.5060.53 Chrome is completely over exposed.

My main monitor: ASUS PG279Q (No HDR support)
Secondary monitor: ASUS PG27UQ (HDR on)

For some unknown reason, When I enter any website that has bright white backgrounds, chrome suddenly increases the brightness to the point where the webpage, and browser itself, is nearly unreadable. Once chrome does this, it follows over to every other tab and its driving me crazy.

Official acknowledgment, potential workarounds

A Chrome forum Community Manager confirmed that the Google team is already aware of the issue and working on a fix. However, there is no ETA for its rollout yet.

Hey there, thanks for taking the time to help bring this to our attention.

Our team is investigating reports of this behavior, and is working on a fix.

In the meantime, there are some workarounds you can try. The first one works for both Windows 10 and Windows 11 OS:

The second workaround is for Windows 11 users only and involves doing the following:

Does force enabling/disabling chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark make a difference ?

Alternatively, there is another workaround that reportedly helps both Windows 10 and Windows 11 OS users:

Thank you so much!! disabling the hardware acceleration fixed it for now. I was fucking losing my mind trying to figure out what the fuck was going on.

We will update this story once new developments on the matter emerge.

Update 1 (July 6)

06:05 pm (IST): One of our readers has confirmed that this issue got resolved after updating Chrome to version 103.0.5060.114.

I just updated to 103.0.5060.114 and that seems to have worked. Or at least the pages that were causing it before are no longer causing it after this update.
