Founded in March of 2006, Twitter is one of the most popular and vocal social media platforms on the planet.

With over 92% of Twitter’s revenue coming from advertising, the company generated more than $5 billion last year. That said, more than 80% of total Twitter users access the platform from mobile devices.

But in the last couple of months, users have faced issues like Twitter showing the same tweets in their feed for hours even after refreshing and some not getting any notifications.

And as if these problems weren’t troubling enough, those who use Twitter on iOS are now complaining about persistent notification alert or badge on icon (1,2,3,4,5).

But when users open the app, they are unable to see any notification. With people complaining about the problem for a couple of weeks now, many are angry and wondering how they can remove the notification alert.

Here are some reports from Twitter iOS users who are seeing persistent notification alert or badge on the icon.

As it turns out, developers are yet to acknowledge the issue where the Twitter iOS app has persistent notification alerts. Thankfully, we came across some workarounds that might help fix the problem.

The first one requires users to open the Twitter app on another device and refresh the notifications. This way, the app on the iOS version of Twitter seems to be updating the notification count.

In case you don’t have another phone, you try restarting the device and reinstalling the app to see if it helps. We hope the Twitter team soon finds out the root cause of the problem and fixes it at the earliest.

06:07 pm (IST): Many Twitter users are again dealing with persistent notifications issues, this time related to DMs (direct messages) and not limited to iOS devices.

According to multiple reports, many Twitter users are getting a ‘ghost’ notification about a new DM in their inbox. But, there is no new message, and the notification does not go away.

Also, other users are not getting notifications from received DMs.

The issue has been acknowledged by the Twitter team, but there is no ETA for a fix yet.
