Instagram Reels can be highly addicting thanks to the short video format along with some cool soundtracks to make the viewing experience interesting.

But it seems many Instagrammers have been left frustrated for the past few hours as they’ve been reporting that music is not working or has been muted in their Reels on Instagram.

We’ve shared some reports from affected users for reference below:

According to users, the music has been removed from their Instagram Reels or the app throws a message saying ‘This song is currently unavailable’.

Since music is a big part of Instagram Reels, it has left many creators fuming and asking Instagram for some explanation.

Speaking of which, the company is yet to acknowledge the problem via its official social channels. However, it’s highly likely that the problem would be resolved sooner rather than later.

At the time of writing this, there are no known workarounds or fixes for the problem. So users may have to wait for an official fix to go live for things to get back to normal.

That said, we’ll keep tabs on the situation and will post an update if and when there are any further developments regarding music not working on Instagram Reels.

Update 1 (June 17, 2022)

05:27 pm (IST): According to a user, this issue has now been resolved and Reels music is working again.

Update 2 (August 30, 2023)

09:19 am (IST): Some users are reporting again a ‘this song is currently unavailable’ error message when trying to play Reels (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).
