iOS users report Google Search 'Save image' option not working or appearing with long-press, issue escalated

Created and developed by Apple Inc., iOS is an operating system designed for mobile devices. The software powers several Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPod Touch, and earlier iPad iterations.

That said, Apple recently announced the latest version of the operating system – iOS 16 – at the just concluded WWDC event.

But iOS is no stranger when it comes to bugs. Users are complaining about the Google Search Save Image option not working or not appearing with long-press (1,2,3,4,5).

Many say the problem is preventing them from downloading images. It looks like the issue surfaced after a recent update.

Here are some reports from iOS users for whom the Save Image option is not appearing in Google Search.

Can’t long press to save image with text. When there’s too much text on a pic, long pressing anywhere on the photo will select the nearest text and not show the option to save image. I’ve disabled Live Text but it still happens! What can I do

Can’t save images on Google iPhone app. I used to be able to hold down on images on google and save them, but now I can’t. I’ve tried checking the photos settings for google, but the only options are “Add Photos Only” and “None”.

Many are frustrated since they are unable to download images on their devices.

Thankfully, a Google Community specialist commented on the issue and said they have escalated the problem to the concerned team for further investigation.

Some are speculating that Apple’s OCR service that recognizes text in images could be interfering with the ability to long-press and save images.

Also, we came across a workaround that might help save images using Google Search. Some users say that if you keep holding the screen, the prompt eventually appears.
