Runescape is a Free MMORPG that has been available for over 20 years. Since its launch, the game has built a loyal community of active players.

Runescape has also been receiving certain changes to its gameplay mechanics and other things. However, for those players who prefer the game as was before, there is Old School Runescape.

Old School Runescape players can access the game through both official and unofficial clients. One of the most popular unofficial clients is RuneLite.

But, currently RuneLite client players are facing an issue where Old School Runescape chat is not working properly, as the chatbox is not displaying messages (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13).

According to multiple reports, many Old School Runescape players are unable to properly use the game’s chat system. Messages are not displayed, and even notifications do not arrive.

Chatbox not working on RuneLite

After we both made a new account today (GIM if that makes any difference), my friend and I aren’t getting any chat messages anymore.
Whenever I talk ingame, I see the message over my head, but nothing pops up in the chatbox; no game messages & private messages to be seen, too.

Then I hopped over to my main account where the same thing happened. No chatbox messages on either account now.

However, it seems that the problem only occurs when using the RuneLite client. Players can still chat seamlessly from the official client, and even from smartphones client.

my chat box is completely blank (Runelite only). How can I fix it?

My chat tab is completely blank despite every filter being on and ‘all’ being highlighted. I’ve been through every setting and runelite plug-in I have on and turned it off and on to see if it affects anything and it doesn’t. I can type things and they appear in my clan chat as well as publicly, but nothing appears in my chat box.

I logged in on mobile and there are no issues.

Official acknowledgment, potential workaround

Runescape team is already aware of the problem and they are working on a fix. In fact, the company has already found a fix, but there is still no ETA for the update that will include it.

In the meantime, there is a potential workaround that reportedly helps to resolve the problem. The steps to follow are shown below:

after going to the runelite discord I’ve fixed the issue. Apparently it was a bug with this week’s update. Here’s how I fixed it:

Press the windows key + R

Paste in %userprofile%/.runelite/

Delete the jagexcache folder

Update 1 (July 26)

07:38 pm (IST): Old School Runescape devs claim to have made some improvements to the mobile client which included a potential fix for the problem. However, it seems that the chat issue still persists even after the update.
