Halo Infinite is the latest installment in the iconic Halo franchise. The game has been available since mid-November 2021 on Windows OS and current generation Xbox consoles (Series X/S).

Recently, Halo Infinite received its Season 2 update with multiple additions and changes. However, the community doesn’t like some of the included gameplay tweaks.

Apparently, Halo Infinite Season 2 brought an unexpected ‘gun jamming’ mechanic to the gameplay. But, its effects on matches are frustrating many players (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).

What is Halo Infinite Season 2 ‘gun jamming?’

‘Gun jamming’ is an effect that causes weapons to ‘get stuck’ during a flurry of fire. Halo Infinite is not the only game that implements this, as it is present in other FPS titles that seek to be realistic.

However, the Halo franchise was never about being realistic, and that’s why players weren’t expecting the implementation of a ‘gun jamming’ effect.

Gun jamming occurs randomly, so it can cause unexpected deaths in battle. In the following video (original source), you can see the effect of gun jamming in Halo Infinite:

BR Jamming during gunfights

Anyone else getting random BR jams in the middle of a gun fight? Never happened prior to this update and I’ve almost lost a gun battle because of that.

Wtf @halo come on 343 why are weapons jamming. Wtf this update is a big let down. Still no answers for cheaters still. Nerf things that didn’t make sense and piss off almost the whole community. Good way to start season 2 of with a bang….. sorry my gun jammed.

Official acknowledgment, a couple of workarounds

The company is already investigating the matter, according to a 343i Community Manager. They are currently collecting information and will provide further updates on the issue in the future.

Meanwhile, there are a couple of workarounds that reportedly help mitigate the issue. However, neither fully resolves it, they just reduce the effects of gun jamming.

First, it seems that much of the blame for the problem is a new Halo Infinite Season 2 stock setting where trigger outer dead zones are set to 100% by default.

So, a potential workaround is to reduce the trigger outer dead zones (left and right) to 55% from the game settings:

They added new trigger outer dead zones default at 100%. They only go down to 55% but it still affects gameplay. It’s game breaking when your BR jams in a firefight and lose only because of it.

Also, as an alternative, you can turn on the ‘smart triggers’ option:

PSA for those who have a scuf instinct and play Halo Infinite. Your gun doesn’t jam if you turn on the smart triggers for whatever reason. I would assume the same happens if you use the trigger stops on the elite series 2.

Update 1 (May 5)

11:38 am (IST): Halo Infinite received a backend update to address the issue where challenges weren’t tracking properly. But that’s all that was fixed. Thus, players have to wait indefinitely for a fix for the gun jamming problem.

Update 2 (May 6)

12:42 pm (IST): A senior community manager at 343 Industries has confirmed that gun jamming happening in semi-automatic weapons is a bug and they are working to resolve it. However, there is still no ETA for the fix.

FYI: The “jamming” that’s happening to semi-automatic weapons (most noticeably the BR) is not an intended mechanic. It’s a bug that was introduced when addressing a rapid-fire exploit. We’re working on a fix now. (Source)

Update 3 (May 20)

01:52 pm (IST): A community manager at 343 Industries has confirmed that they will release an update for Halo Infinite next week. It will bring fixes for several bugs including the gun jamming issue.
