New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on May 18, 2022) follows:

When it comes to online video sharing platforms, YouTube has been dominating the landscape for the last few years. The Google-owned company has more than 2 billion monthly active users worldwide.

In 2020, the platform generated somewhere around $20 billion in revenue, which is rather unsurprising since it is second to Facebook in terms of global engagement.

But lately, YouTube users have been complaining about several technical glitches such as the sorting option for viewing the oldest video missing and controller buttons not working on Xbox and PlayStation versions of the app.

That said, Android users are now reporting a new issue where the YouTube Watch Later button is missing from the notifications for some (1,2,3,4,5).

In case you did not know, the YouTube app allowed users to save videos to the playlist by simply clicking the Watch Later button in the notification shade. But with the button now gone, many are frustrated and say they have to launch the YouTube app and manually add the video to the list.

Some say they tried common solutions like toggling the app notifications, manually expanding the notification, and reinstalling the application but to no avail.

Random Notification Change or Bug? This is occurring on my Samsung. Just today I noticed that my YouTube notifications look pretty different and lost some functionality. The app icon looks more greyed out, the notification takes up more space, and there is no more watch later button or other functionalities at the bottom of the notification. This is the only app that this issue is occurring on.

Thank you for posting this – I had just toggled on picture in picture in the settings, and then the notifications started looking like this. I thought I had broken something, so I’m really glad it’s not just me! They really, really should make it go back to the way it was. I would be really annoyed if this was an intentional design choice.
