Philips Hue is the company’s ‘Smart lighting’ product line. Philips offers many products that allow you to set multiple lighting configurations in any environment.

Smart lighting products allow you to easily control the lights in your home from your mobile device. You can lower the light intensity, change the color of the lights, turn off the bulbs and more.

Philips Hue bulbs are also compatible with Amazon Alexa voice assistant. So, you can execute voice commands to make things easier through the ‘Hue Skill’ feature.

However, currently many Philips Hue users are facing issues when trying to control their bulbs using Alexa voice commands, as the Hue Skill feature is not working (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7).

Philips Hue Skill not working, cannot control Bluetooth bulbs via Alexa

According to multiple reports, the sync between Philips Hue products and Amazon Alexa is not working properly.

In some cases, Philips Hue users get a message saying that they need to use a bridge to control their bulbs.

Meanwhile, other users are unable to control their bulbs via Alexa voice commands, as they only receive a ‘sorry, try again later’ response.

Echos only response is “sorry, try again later”

When i say the action word or press the action button, Echo lights up red and says “sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later or contact customer service trhough the Alexa app”. I can still connect to Bluetooth and operate my device through the app but just not by voice or button command. I have tried reseting and restarting everything and redownloading the app. What can I do?

There are also cases where Philips Hue bulbs suddenly disconnect from the Hue Skill platform, and users are unable to reconnect them.

Hue skill no longer connects

I’ve had Alexa paired with Hue for years to control the lights in my home. It stopped working a few days ago, and after trying numerous things I tried disconnecting the skill with the intent of reconnecting the skill. But every time I try to reconnect the skill it fails, and there are a bunch of recent comments on the skill saying the same- that it doesn’t work. I don’t know how else to connect my lights to Alexa, making the whole point of having these bulbs pretty useless.

Here’s the official word

The Philips team is already aware of the issue and is working on resolving it. However, they also warn that the problem is on Amazon’s side, not on their Hue bulbs.

There is a known issue between Hue Bluetooth and Alexa. Amazon is investigating this together with us, but no solution yet. Issue is from Amazon side and not caused by our bulbs. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.
