League of Legends: Wild Rift 'Unknown Error -13 or -5' frustrating many players (workaround inside)
Here’s the crux of the article in video form:
League of Legends: Wild Rift is the mobile version of the successful MOBA game from Riot Games.
Wild Rift seeks to offer the ‘pure’ League of Legends experience from a smartphone or tablet. For that, the developers adapted touch screen controls.
A few hours ago, Wild Rift received the 3.2 patch update:
But, the update brought an unexpected result. League of Legends: Wild Rift players who downloaded the game from third-party sources (not Google Play Store) cannot access it due to ‘Unknown Error -13’ or ‘Unknown Error -5’.
League of Legends: Wild Rift ‘Unknown Error -13 or -5’
Unknown error -13
So i just updated the game but whenever I try to open the game, a popup with Unknown error – 13 shows up. Anyone else have this problem? I even uninstalled the game and performed a clean install. Downloaded from tap tap
unknown error – 5
Anybody know a fix to this? I’ve been seeing a lot of posts today about not being to download wr at 3rd party apps. I tried taptap and apkpure earlier since I can’t update it through Google play store, I’m using a Huawei phone btw so normally I don’t have playstore built in, that’s why I have dualspace. Then I just reinstalled the game and I get the message unknown error – 5
The issue occurs when downloading the game from third-party sources
Apparently, the latest League of Legends: Wild Rift 3.2 update prevents players from accessing the game if they didn’t download it from the Google Play Store.
With Patch 3.2, Riot have made it so that, if you install the game from place other than google play, the game will refuse to load and show you an error message instead.
There is still no official word from the developers on the matter. So, there is no confirmation yet on whether it is a bug or an expected behavior.
The situation seriously affects many users who often use external app stores, and especially users of mobile devices without access to Google services (such as Huawei smartphones and tablets).
While it is not officially known whether the error is a bug or not, some clues suggest that it is expected behavior. Some players got a message that literally says they need to download the game from an official source:
Pending an official statement on the matter, there is a potential workaround that reportedly helps to bypass the restriction. The process to follow is shown below:
Connect to a VPN in Singapore or the US.
Log out of your google account and clear google play store cache, clear all trace of your old google account.
create a new google account while the VPN is on.
Sign in with it and get wild rift on the google playstore while the VPN on.
if it ask you for payment method just press skip, if press skip doesn’t work then your VPN is not working.
We will update this story as events unfold.
