If you are in search of a vector graphics editor, Adobe Illustrator is one of the most popular solutions available in the market that lets users create logos, icons, and complex illustrations.

Developed and published by Adobe, the developers released v26.2.1 in March of 2022, bringing in lots of bug fixes and changes.

But in the last few months, issues such as smart vector objects not opening in Illustrator after macOS 12.3 update and special characters not working in some languages have negatively affected the user experience for some.

Adding to the trouble, Adobe Illustrator users are now saying elements are missing or not displaying correctly when they export any SVG file (1,2,3,4). Reports suggest the objects are changing to black and messing up with the d-line.

This is causing a lot of anger and frustration amongst many since it is directly affecting their workflow. Here are some reports from Adobe Illustrator users facing SVG file export issues with missing elements.

My team and I are using version 26.2.1 of illustrator and our SVG export has been very inconsistently messing up our designs. It will change certain colors to black, change the opacity of shapes, slightly change the d-line, etc. The issues can change from one export to the next on the exact same artboard. Our export settings have not changed at all since we we last able to export a properly rendered SVG.

Hello all, I’m trying to export my logo in SVG format, but one element of the logo does not export well at all. Its size and position are not correct. This specific piece of design has been integrated to the logo in SVG format. I have in total 2 layers (in Illustrator):
– 1 layer with the outlines
– 1 layer with the background color.
The logo exports well in PNG format. How can I solve the issue in SVG format?

Thankfully, an Adobe Employee shed some light on the matter and said they are aware of the issue where elements are missing when users export an SVG file. They also shared a workaround that might help with the issue.

Thanks for getting back to me, @Hannah24105. I have reported the issue you are facing to the product team. There have been several issues related to SVG in v26.1 and later, which they will be addressing in the next release. Also, they have shared a workaround/just an FYI which may help you:In the SVG Options dialog on export, disable “Minimize” for ID generation and choose “Layer Name.” This should get rid of most of the issues but not all.

As always, when the issue is resolved, we will be updating this space to reflect the same, so stay tuned.
