[Updated] Spotify 'Discover Weekly' not playing or loading, issue being looked into

Spotify is most people’s favorite choice for music streaming services.

Spotify allows easy access to a huge catalog of songs. You can use the service across multiple devices and platforms, either through a web browser or through dedicated apps.

That said, currently Spotify users are facing issues with the ‘Discover Weekly’ feature where the playlist is not playing or loading (1, 2).

Spotify ‘Discover Weekly’ is a feature that generates a weekly playlist specially designed for you. Discover Weekly is based on the personal tastes of each user as learned by the service’s algorithm.

The Spotify ‘Discover Weekly’ playlist begins to appear after a few weeks of using the service. Each week, it will offer you a different playlist with new music to discover.

But, currently the Spotify ‘Discover Weekly’ playlist is missing or not loading for many users.

Discover weekly now found but won’t load

So my discover weekly disappeared. I followed the usual trick of checking the “made for you” section and it wasn’t there either. Release Radar was, but no Discover Weekly. I searched for it and found it – after sifting though a about 40 public playlists called discover weekly which were not the official Spotify one made for me.

In some cases, the playlist appears completely empty. Meanwhile, in other cases the playlist gets stuck loading in an endless loop.

When I click it, it just endlessly loads with a buffering sign, the playlist never shows up or populates. Cant long press and bring a menu up so i cant add it anywhere to check back. I’ve clean reinstalled, restarted my phone, used an old version (several different .apk) and still it does not work.

Everything else works and loads fine.

Some users report that the Spotify ‘Discover Weekly’ hasn’t been working properly for them for a while now. Apparently, the algorithm threw them repeated playlists every week.

I should also mention the last several months my discover weekly has played songs, if not entire discover playlists, that have already been played. Three weeks ago i had a discover weekly playlist that was the same as a screenshot from year ago that was the EXACT same playlist, all 6 of the songs listed in the screenshot lined up with that weeks discover weekly.

The Spotify team is already aware of the issue and is investigating. However, there are no details on an ETA for a fix yet.

We’ve received reports about Discover Weekly not playing for some folks, and it also seem to endlessly load.
