Ever since its launch back in 2017, Fortnite has dominated the Battle Royale niche alongside a few other games such as PUBG and Apex Legends.
All of this is possible thanks to the developers constantly churning out new content and collaborating with popular artists and franchises.
Having said that, players recently reported several bugs and glitches such as the Wu-Tang banner not showing up for some and skin physics not functioning properly after the v20.20 update.
And as if the aforementioned issues aren’t troubling enough, Fortnite players who play in split-screen mode are now facing a black screen issue (1,2,3,4,5).
According to recent reports, many say whenever they open their map or quests in split-screen mode, the other players’ screen goes black, making it impossible for them to play the game.
Some thought it was initially an issue with corrupted game files, but upon reinstalling and restarting the game, the problem persisted.
Here are some reports from Fortnite players affected by the black screen issue when playing in split-screen.
Duos split screen. When you playing duos in split screen and one player goes to the map the other player’s screen goes black. It suck when you’re trying to mark a spot and the other player dies or can’t see

So when I play split screen with my dad I use the thermal and when I play I normally look for enemy’s so when I was playing fortnite with him I aimed in with my thermal and we saw a enemy so I started shooting with my thermal and then my dad aimed in with his epic ranger and it took away the thermal for me and also when one person opens the mini map to look at where to go it makes the other persons screen all black. So epic pls fix this and all of this happened the whole match so yeah this sucks.

With some reports dating back more than a month, it looks like the issue has been affecting players for quite some time now.
Thankfully, Fortnite developers have acknowledged the split-screen black screen issue on their Trello board and said they are working on a fix. In the meantime, those affected can close their map to regain visibility.
However, there is no ETA on when it will be fixed. We hope devs soon find out the reason behind the problem and fix it so Fortnite players can enjoy the game as intended.
Until then, we will be keeping an eye out for more information and let you know once it is fixed so stay tuned for updates.
