[Updated] Virgin Media users unable to access or sign in to email accounts, issue acknowledged

If you happen to live in the UK, chances are pretty high you must have heard about Virgin Media. The British telecommunication company generated a revenue of around 5.13 billion British pounds in 2020.

The telecom giant competes with various companies in the country such as Vodafone, Sky, BT, and Talktalk. However, users often face problems such as some receiving McAfee spam emails and Sky Sports red button service not working.

Adding to the trouble, Virgin Media users are now reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that they are unable to access or sign in to their email accounts. Some reports also suggest that the website is down and not working.

Users say they already tried clearing browser cache, cookies, trying out a different browser altogether, and resetting settings but to no avail.

Here is what some Virgin Media users who are unable to sign in to their email accounts have to say about the problem.

Since yesterday afternoon I can’t access my main or secondary ntlworld emails via virginmedia.com. I either get a “something wrong” message or “error” message. I’ve tried:
1) Deleting cookies & brower history
2) Other browers – chrome, edge, firefox
3) accessing from Safari on my table and from my iphone – same problem
4) Incognito mode on my PC – same problem
Starting to really worry because that is the only route to access my personal emails

Can anyone get into their web email? I have been unable to access my Virgin Media web email for about 3 hours. And obviously some other people are having trouble too. Have tried assorted work arounds, but still can’t get in. Just get some unhelpful message about ‘It’s our problem, not yours. We are working on it.’

Affected Virgin Media users are angry and wondering when they will be able to sign in to their email accounts. As it turns out, Virgin media is aware of the issue and working to resolve it.

01:48 pm (IST): It seems that the issue has re-surfaced (1, 2), but the Virgin Media support team confirmed that they are already working on resolving it.

04:41 pm (IST): The Virgin Media support team confirmed that the issue has finally been resolved.

We have now restored the ability to send and receive emails for all affected accounts. Our team are continuing to work flat out to restore historic emails into the inboxes of a small proportion of accounts. We apologise again for any inconvenience caused over the past two days.

12:41 pm (IST): Again, Virgin Media users are facing an issue where the email system is unavailable or not working (1, 2).

05:56 pm (IST): The issue has been acknowledged and although Virgin Media has been working to resolve it for a few hours, it is still present.

02:51 pm (IST): More than two weeks after the issue re-surfaced, there are still reports of users dealing with it (1, 2, 3).

The Virgin Media team is still working on getting their email feature back up and running, but there is no ETA yet.

We are aware that some customers are experiencing issues with their email service and are very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing. Our teams are working flat out to fully restore all emails as soon as possible. ^TW
