Lord Of The Rings Online (LOTRO) server issues (login or authentication errors) acknowledged, devs working to reopen game worlds

Set in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, Lord of the Rings Online is a popular multiplayer RPG that was launched back in April 2007. It is available on Windows and macOS.

LOTRO has millions of players around the world and if there’s an issue with the game, those millions are affected.

Having said that, many Lord Of The Rings Online players are now reporting (1, 2) issues with the game that are making it unplayable.

Gamers are unable to get in the game due to server issues. Moreover, they are getting error messages such as ‘Failed to read the authentication response’ and ‘missing required configuration value’.

Here are some reports for reference:

I’m attempting to reinstall LOTRO and log in. After entering UN & PW I receive the following error: Failed to read authentication response [err. unexpected end of file][line: 1][col:1] Any assistance here would be great. (Source)

However, it appears that servers are currently down intentionally. Support had already informed players regarding a downtime on Twitter.

Moreover, they are currently working to reopen the game worlds. Here’s the full statement.

We are currently working to reopen the game worlds, and we expect to be able to reopen the worlds tomorrow morning (Thursday, April 21st Eastern Daylight Time.) We will have more information in about 12 hours. #LOTRO (Source)

We hope that the devs fix this as soon as possible since players are unable to play LOTRO.
