InDesign is one of Adobe’s professional products. It is a layout and design software that is used for the composition of digital pages.
Adobe InDesign is aimed at the print and digital media industry. It has many tools, features, fonts, and more that allow you to create eye-catching graphic designs to attract the attention of readers.
However, currently Adobe InDesign users are facing an issue where they are unable to place or import multipage PDF files (1, 2).
InDesign users cannot import multipage PDF files after 17.2 update
According to multiple reports, the latest Adobe InDesign 17.2 update brought up the issue in question.
Normally, InDesign allows you to import multipage PDF files to work on them. But, it seems that the function is currently broken as users are unable to do so.

A glitch in the latest InDesign 17.2 update causes only the first page of multipage PDF files to be added into the working file.
Placing multipage PDF in InDesign has stopped working for me
Hi. I’m trying to place a multipage PDF in InDesign (17.2) using the default Place function and it’s not working for me, I’m only getting the first page of the PDF document. Same thing happens if I opt for ‘All’ page or a page range.
This method has worked for me until today. Any ideas what’s causing this issue? Thanks.

In some cases, users are able to import a multipage PDF file. However, functions over these files (such as inserting multiple links inside of preset frames) are also broken.
Placing Multiple Images inside of Frames
I used to be able to place multiple links inside of preset frames, like a full PDF file for instance, by clicking place, selecting the file or files, and clicking once on each of the set frames. But now it stops after the first frame. If I click on a blank page or out in space, it works fine. Any ideas on what is wrong?

Adobe team is already aware, potential workaround
The Adobe team is already aware of the glitch in question and is investigating.
We are sorry for the trouble. We are able to replicate the issue at our end. The product team has started investigating the issue. I would request you to upvote this UserVoice (https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/44963242-17-2-0-18-plac…) if not done already.

In the meantime, there is a potential workaround that could help you resolve or mitigate the glitch.
In the meantime, you may try the following workaround as suggested by @Laubender until the fix is released:
Load multiple PDF pages from a multi-page PDF to the place gun.
Draw out new frames with the loaded cursor to place one page after another.
