New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on April 12, 2022) follows:

Spotify is one of the few streaming platforms that has completely revolutionized the music industry in the last few years. With more than 70 million songs in its library, it has one of the largest music collections on the planet.

But in the last few months, subscribers have reported a number of issues such as the Now Playing progress bar missing or disappearing on the Android version of the app or equalizer presets removed from iOS and iPadOS after v8.7.10 update.

Adding to the trouble, many Spotify subscribers on iOS are now reporting (1,2,3,4,5) a new problem that is causing podcasts to restart whenever they switch between Spotify and other apps.

The problem seems to be angering many iOS users since podcasts are often long. And once they lose progress they have to manually find the timestamp and resume from there. Reports suggest the issue surfaced after the recent update.

Everytime I pause a podcast, leave the app, then come back to it, playback gets reset to either the beginning of an episode, or almost the beginning. Is this a known issue? Seems like an awfully bad bug, and makes the app almost useless to me. Edit: This is for iOS/iPhone, BTW.

It’s been happening since yesterday. It’s driving me crazy! Its on podcasts with video. Every time I go into the app, it restarts the episode. I have to then search around and try to find my place again in the episode. The video feature of Spotify sucks so bad. It has been more than a year since they’ve added video to some podcasts and it has always been glitchy/buggy. Wtf, fix it already!!!

Thankfully, Spotify support commented on the matter and said developers are aware of the issue where podcasts might restart or reset after switching from other apps on iOS.

While a fix already seems underway, they did not share any ETA on when the problem will be resolved.

We’re afraid we don’t have any info about this at the moment, but rest assured our developers are working on a fix. Should other questions occur to you, we’re just a tweet away.

In the meantime, those affected can try reinstalling the app or force-closing the app before navigating back so the podcast timestamp does not reset.
