[Updated] Adobe InDesign 17.2 users report installed fonts missing or not activating on Macs, issue acknowledged

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on April 07, 2022) follows:

Adobe InDesign is one of the best solutions available if you are looking for a desktop publishing and page layout designing tool. Developed by Adobe, the latest version (17.2) was released on March 28.

Used by professionals worldwide, InDesign is often used to create flyers, magazine page layouts, and newspapers amongst other things.

But in the last few months, users have faced issues such as OpenType font getting marked as PostScript Type 1 and objects missing or broken when using the Publish Online function.

And now, recent reports (1,2,3,4) from Mac users running Adobe InDesign 17.2 suggest that installed fonts are missing or not activating. The issue seems to be infuriating a lot of users since it is affecting every InDesign document, making it impossible for many to work.

Users say they tried everything from restarting Adobe InDesign to reinstalling fonts, clearing Adobe font cache, and even reinstalling the application itself but nothing helps.

Below are some reports from Adobe InDesign users complaining about fonts missing or not activating on Macs.

The latest version of InDesign 2022 and the latest version of Suitcase Fusion / TeamSync (22.0.4) with the corresponding plugin do not work. With InDesign 2021 and the latest plugins everything works fine. In AI 2022 everything also works fine. Only ID 2022 seems to have an incompatibility. According to Extensis, this is due to InDesign, as they have already received similar feedback. Is there anything Adobe can do? Mac Monterey 12.2.1 · Indesign 2022 17.2 · Suitcase Fusion 22.0.4

All of a sudden fonts ae not working with InDesign. I use InDesign CC 2022 and Suitcase Fusion. I’ve had no issues with fonts at all. Then, all of a sudden I open a file that I worked on yesterday and the fonts won’t activate in InDesign. Suitcase has the font turned on but the font does not show up in INDD font list. However, the font shows up in Illustrator. Its not all fonts, just some. But a lot of them. And its fonts that I use everyday. I using MacOS Catalina and the most recent update of InDesign and Suitcase Fusion. Any ideas where to start or is it an InDesign issue?

Thankfully, an Adobe employee has shed some light on the matter and said the developers are investigating the issue where multiple fonts on 17.2 are missing or not activating.

We are sorry for the trouble. We are able to replicate the issue at our end with multiple fonts on v17.2 & in some instances, on v17.1 as well. We have logged a bug a with the product team last week, and they are currently investigating the issue on a priority.

In the meantime, those affected by the problem can revert to an older version of Adobe InDesign as a temporary workaround.

As always, we will be keeping an eye out on the matter and update this space when the developers fix the Adobe InDesign 17.2 missing fonts issue so make sure you stay tuned.

Update 1 (May 10)

02:07 pm (IST): An Adobe employee has confirmed that this issue has been fixed in the latest InDesign version (17.2.1).
