New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 22, 2022) follows:

Illustrator is one of Adobe’s most popular products. The software is widely used by both professional and amateur designers worldwide.

Adobe Illustrator is available for both desktop and mobile devices, so you can work on your designs anywhere.

However, many Adobe Illustrator users have been facing issues where they are unable to locally save any file as the save dialog box options are grayed out on macOS 12.3 (1, 2, 3).

Adobe Illustrator ‘Save’ dialog box grayed out after macOS 12.3 update

According to multiple reports, Adobe Illustrator users on macOS 12.3 are experiencing issues when trying to save their files.

When affected users attempt to save a file, the dialog box shows all options grayed out, preventing the process from completing.

I’m using Illustrator 26.1 on a MacBook Air M1 with OSX Monterey 12.3.

It’s not possible to save any file. If I click on file > save (save as) the upcoming save-window has a disabled “save” (sichern) Button. It’s also not possible to change the folder or click on anything else. It’s all deactivated. I can only change the filename, but that has no other effect.

It’s only possible to save files as cloud document, which I don’t want to do, because the files are needed to be stored on our NAS

At the moment, it is only possible to save files in the cloud but not locally, according to reports.

Save dialog box not functioning after Mac OS 12.3 update.

After updating to 12.3, Illustrator gives me a Save dialog box with the save button grayed out. I have to hit escape to close the dialog box. This happens on any existing file I open as well as new files. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator, reset preferences, and unchecked “Save in Background” in preferences.

Adobe team is aware of the issue

The Adobe team is already aware of issues that some users are experiencing when trying to locally save Illustrator files.

Hi @imago stuhr. We are sorry for the trouble. We have logged a bug with the Product team, and they have started investigating the issue.

It seems the issue started right after the release of the macOS Monterey v12.3, as it is happening with the new & older version of Illustrator.

One user reached out to us, and uninstalling the whole creative cloud resolved the issue for him. However, it is not an ideal or recommended resolution.

The support team also notes that uninstalling the whole Adobe creative cloud could be a potential temporary workaround, but it’s not the ideal option as you lose functionality.

We will update this story if new related details emerge in the future.
