League of Legends players on Mac devices unable to login after Riot Client update, issue acknowledged (workaround inside)

League of Legends is one of the most popular multiplayer games in the MOBA genre. It is currently available for Microsoft Windows OS, macOS and even mobile devices.

In League of Legends, players can choose from over 140 champions to form teams with and take advantage of the abilities of each one to create the best strategies.

However, currently League of Legends players on Mac devices are unable to login to the game after a recent Riot Client update (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10). But, there is a workaround that helps resolve the issue.

The Riot Client is the ‘portal’ through which League of Legends players can access the game (and other games from the company). So, an error in the client will prevent them from being able to play.

Recently, the Riot Client for Mac devices received an update that should be routine. However, the update ‘broke’ the software.

So, League of Legends players on Mac have been unable to access the game for some days now, as they get stuck on the ‘trying to reconnect’ screen (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

Whenever I launch league, it gives me the trying to reconnect screen. Happens at random times but now it’s everytime i log on.

My WIFI is perfectly fine but at random times (every time I launch league now), it will say “trying to reconnect” and give me that popup. I’ve tried loads of different ways but I haven’t been able to fix it.

When the reconnect thing happens, it stays for what feels like eternity. I’ve waited a few times and nothing happens.

Also when it pops up, it doesn’t let me do anything on the client. All it says is the reconnecting thing and “exit instead” is the only option i get.

Apparently, Riot Games made a mistake in the most recent Riot Client update for Mac devices (macOS), as they included executable files from the Windows OS version.

So Riot packaged windows executables into the Mac client in their latest update completely breaking the game on Macs. Pretty much par for the course for riot’s developers .

The Riot Games team is aware of the issue in question and said the complete re-installation of the game works as a workaround to solve it.

📢[LoL/TFT] Some players on Mac who updated the Riot Client yesterday may be experiencing issues loading into LoL & TFT. To correct this issue, players affected will need to reinstall LoL.
