New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 12, 2022) follows:

Google Meet is one of the most used video communication services available on the internet. Formerly known as Hangouts Meet, it is one of the apps that will replace Hangouts.

Initially released back in 2017, the app gained massive popularity due to the Corona pandemic. With Google suspending the 60 minute limit for free users, the service had more than 100 million users every day in 2020.

Having said that, users did report some bugs like the app disconnecting after joining meeting on Amazon Fire Tablet and the Android app not updating through Play Store on Android 10.

And according to recent reports from Google Meet users, many are now saying (1,2,3) that the Present now is either grayed out or not working. The problem is preventing them from sharing their screen with others, negatively affecting productivity.

Some said they tried clearing cache and cookies, updating and restarting Windows but nothing helps. Below are some reports from Google Meet users for whom the ‘Present now’ button is grayed out.

I am facing issues with google meet. I am unable to present my screen using my personal account, i have checked my settings and other options all are set. I was able to present my screen using my work account. I have attached the screenshot of the issue for your reference. I even uninstalled the chrome browser and reset my account settings but then also it didn’t work out. but it works in other browsers. It also worked in incognito tab. I have updated my Windows 11 also. Kindly help me through this issue.

While using Google Meet this week, my ‘Present Now’ button is now not functioning:
-It appears ‘normal’ when in a meeting, and when pressed allows the selection of a window, tab, etc….but when a selection is made, nothing happens and the ‘Present Now’ appears shaded. It does not respond to any clicks.
-Thus, there is no way to present during meetings.
-If I exit a meeting and then return, the present button appear normal, but the behavior is the same as above.

Fortunately, a Diamond Product Expert has commented on the matter and said that they have escalated the issue to the developers for further investigation. They also shared a workaround that seems to be helping some.

Thank you for all the detailed reports, I have passed on the issue to Meet. If this is working in an Incognito window, please try disabling ALL extensions and add-ons to see if that fixes it. (I see that does not work for some folks)
