Marvel’s Avengers, Square Enix’s action, adventure, and looting game, has been available since mid-2020.

Since its release, the game has been surrounded by negative reviews and controversy due to lack of launch content, repetitive gameplay, broken promises, etc.

Over time, the game has received some updates to improve the situation, although the players still expect more from the developers.

However, the game recently received a patch that is causing issues for PS5 players. More specifically, Marvel’s Avengers is constantly crashing on PS5 after the latest v2.3 update (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11).

Most player reports on PS5 agree that the Marvel’s Avengers crashing issue happens during an un-skippable cutscene where the character Nick Fury is speaking and mentions the name ‘Clint’.

Okay so Marvel’s Avengers is currently unplayable to me and many other PS5 users (don’t know status of other platforms), due to an unskippable Nick Fury cutscene that automatically crashes the game. Patch 2.3 not off to a great start.

I literally haven’t turned my game on in months so when I saw this patch was rolling out I thought I’d download it and see what it adds. Nick Fury sounds like Peter Dinklage in Destiny 1 and the game immediately crashes when Kate says “Clint”. Yeah. I think I’m good. ✌️ Lemme know when we get a roadmap and new shit to do.

However, in some cases, the crashing does not occur during the cutscene described above, but during the campaign.

Soon as I tried to change armor I earned with Spider-Man I got a game crash and lost my skill points and gear. This sucks. 3x it happened because I had no idea what was going on. I’m on PS5 also.

Developers are already aware, a potential workaround

Marvel’s Avengers developers are aware (1, 2) of the crashing issue that many PS5 players are facing. The company is looking into that, and will provide further details on the matter later.

We’re continuing to investigate an issue that is causing a crash for some PS5 players. We’ll provide an update on our progress by 11 a.m. PT tomorrow, or as soon as a fix is available.

Update 1 (March 31)

06:12 pm (IST): Marvel’s Avengers support on Twitter has informed players that they have identified the cause and are working to implement the fix.

Our team is continuing to investigate the issue causing a crash for some PS5 players. We think we’ve identified a fix that is currently being implemented/tested. We hope to have more news by tomorrow morning and will continue to keep you updated. (Source)
