Apex Legends is Electronic Arts alternative on the battle-royale genre. The game has been available since 2019 on multiple platforms and consoles.

To give it a popularity boost, Apex Legends recently received a ‘next gen update’. As expected, the main attraction of the update will be better graphics and performance improvements.

However, the update also brought some issues, which we’ve covered here (1, 2, 3). Now, many players are facing another annoying issue that affects their personal settings.

More specifically, many Apex Legends player custom settings are resetting to default after the next gen update (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

Apex Legends next gen update is resetting player settings for many

Many action games (especially multiplayer) offer players the possibility to configure gameplay and personal settings to their liking.

For instance, in Apex Legends you can set custom settings for the Advanced Look Controls, camera FOV, Audio sliders, etc. All of these aspects directly impact your gaming experience.

Configuring the ideal gameplay settings for you can take a long time. Also, you quickly get used to controlling your character with those settings in mind.

That said, Apex Legends next gen update is reportedly resetting player custom settings to default. This is problematic and forces many to go back to spending hours configuring everything to their liking.

Don’t play Apex PS5 and lose your PS4 settings before you copy them down. Learned the hard way.

I’ve seen this posted already, but it doesn’t seem to reach enough people in time. If you start Apex Legends PS5 before you screen-capture, write down or memorize your customized settings like button layout, field of view and look sensitivity, unlike your unlockables and progress, that data will not transfer and will be gone seemingly forever.

The issue seems to be affecting all platforms

There are reports of the issue involving all consoles and platforms. So, it doesn’t seem to be a glitch limited to a particular platform.

Setting resetting on XSX

After downloading the next gen update on my Series X, the settings seem to reset every time I quit the game. They won’t save. Has this happened to anyone else? If so did you find a fix?

At the moment there is no official acknowledgment on the issue from the developers. There is also no workaround to help resolve it after it happens.

However, as a precautionary warning, you should take a picture of your current Apex Legends player settings before updating.

We will update this story once new related developments emerge in the future.
