New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 28, 2022) follows:

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Watch Dogs is an open-world action game that was released in 2014. Set in a fictional city based on Chicago, it is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Wii U, and Windows.

The story follows in the footsteps of a hacker named Aiden Pearce who is looking for vengeance after his niece is killed. It features a single player as well as a multiplayer game mode.

While the title game was praised by players and critiques for its storyline and gameplay, many were disappointed because of graphical downgrades and the game having several bugs and issues.

That being said, many Watch Dogs players are reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that they are getting an Avg. wait time: Unknown error when trying to connect online or play multiplayer.

It looks like the issue is preventing players from enjoying the game with their friends or completing certain achievements. Reports suggest that the error message is shown for a couple of minutes before the matchmaking is timed out.

Some said they tried generic solutions such as verifying game files and checking their internet connection but nothing seems to help. Below are some reports from Watch Dogs players who are getting the Avg. wait time unknown error message.

For 9 days now the sever has been down. All we get are “the servers are currently offline, we have a team looking in to it”. Except yesterday when a tech support person said that they were up and running normally (which they are not). Is Ubi really looking at the problem? 9 days is getting pretty ridiculous. Ubi, can we get a better answer on what has caused the problem, and when it will be fixed? I don’t have much faith that it’s being looked in to at all.

Can confirm on PS5 that I haven’t been able to connect to anything multiplayer on WD1 for 12 days now. Was the same for Rayman Legends on Vita but that has a LOT of people freaking out on their @ubisoftsupport Twitter. I actually came here to see about getting more people to report the issue to them so they’ll get it fixed. I literally only need the multiplayer for platinum and the servers went down a couple days before I was going to complete them.

Thankfully, Ubisoft has commented on the matter and said that they are aware of the issue where Watch Dogs players are getting the Avg. wait time: Unknown error when trying to join a multiplayer game.

Hey there! We have received similar reports of this issue and forward this to the relevant team to further investigate. While I don’t have any further updates to share, please keep a lookout on our public channels for other news. We thank you for your patience and understanding in the meantime while we look into the problem.

However, they did not share any ETA on when the problem will be resolved. As always, we will be keeping an eye out on the matter and update this space as and when required so make sure you stay tuned.

Update 1 (May 18)

11:03 am (IST): Many players are still reporting the issue where Watch Dogs servers are displaying unknown average wait times.

Here are some reports for reference:

@UbisoftSupport The Watch Dogs 1 servers are still displaying unknown wait times on online contracts its been 3 or 4 days of waiting now please fix this already. (Source)

watch dogs Xbox one still has issues with online multiplayer. All modes show “Avg. Wait Time: Unknown” I have port forwarded port 3074, or whatever it is for the Xbox network (Source)

I would guess that @spidelibob has the same issue as everyone else trying matchmaking on Watch_dogs 1! “Average Wait Time: Unknown”. This is the 3rd time this has happened in 2 months. Please try and fix this issue properly as the game is still quite popular. (Source)

Note: We have more such stories in our dedicated Ubisoft Section so be sure to follow them as well.
